For those of you that know me already, you probably know that I have a favorite downtown St. Pete brewery.
Ahem, I introduce you to.. Green Bench Brewery.
Moving home to St. Pete this past year, I wanted to see why everyone has been raving about this place. So, I decided to go to their 1st Birthday Party last month – and it was so fun!
They had local food trucks, live bands and even a tent of handmade jewelry. These fries from Twisted Iron (local Tampa Bay food truck) – so good! Their specialty is chicken & waffles. Yum.
Green Bench even offered a tour open for the public – and endless free canned beers.
I was happy…really happy.
We were told on the mini tour that in the early 1900’s, St. Petersburg was referred to as the “City of the Green Benches”. St. Pete was home to almost 7,000 green benches back in the day! What a neat name for a brewery.
Another awesome GB fact – they have a mini basketball court in their warehouse.
We played checkers & watched football. I love the atmosphere. There is also cornhole outside and a ton of lawn chairs. Warning: you will also meet really awesome yogis doing their acrobatic thing that they do. It’s really tempting to give it a try – I might one of these days if I have one too many brews.
What’s really cool about Green Bench is that the owners are St. Pete natives. Steven Duffy and Nathan Stonecipher both went to school together at St. Petersburg High. Not only are these dudes brewing some really great beer, but they’ve also been recognized and awarded Best of the Bay 2014 Reader’s Pick & Best of the Bay 2013 – Critic’s Pick. Nice!
Happy Birthday, Green Bench Brewery. Thanks for being awesome and serving the BEST local brews in the Burg! Check out their website & more on Green Bench here.
Green Bench Brewery is located on 1133 Baum Avenue, St. Petersburg, between Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Street to 16th Street, along Central Avenue and First Avenues north and south.
